Project Poi
Monday nights come down and try fire Poi,
No flamable clothes please, it is a dangerous art!
What is Poi? Basically "its two bits of sponge on some string", but technically, its a form of dancing originating from the Māori people of new zealand.
Ive been practicing Poi through hobby for the last two years, but only recently have taken up Fire poi ("two bits of fire on some chain") Its an absolute, great skill to have for wowing at parties (out door of course) and for attracting attention of high passer byes at festivals. Either way, wether poi is used for amazing other people, or just for self therapy. it is a hypnotic and energising experience for anyone to have, which is why project poi is here. To give the Drop inn members an oppertunity to have a go in the art of fire poi. The sessions will be run on an open-schedule process, meaning it will be free-going for anyone to take part. just be sure to attend Monday evenings from after 7 o'clock.
Hope to see you soon
WARNING:
-Fire is hot and will hurt incredibly much (so no flamable clothes please, e.g Nylon. and go easy on the hair spray)
-pyra-maniacs will need parental concent
Take care peeps, peace out

U.V
The long awaited U.V project starts this month, with small projects leading up to it, like the re-paint of the back wall (Graffiti wall). The U.V project will run along side the Graffiti Projects, blending the two together. U.V will then introduce some new creative and BRIGHT ideas. Come down and play in U.V
Coming soon plans for U.V project starting as part 3 of the graffiti season.
The Feature wall in Warehouse to be painted under U.V lights with U.V paints. Starting with patching the gaps in the existing graffiti. Some of the names will be covered or blended into other artwork. If anyone has any idea, try drawing a picture and bringing it down. Some of the simple designs can be made into stencils.
There are Three screens as a random piece of art constructed in the corner, more artwork will be painted over the top to give an Urban city scape scene. The otherside of the wall therte is ideas to build another 3D graffiti art piece using speakers (so anyone with busted old speakers please bring them down)
A familiar poster used for the original U.V idea. The project has expanded a lot since the first poster, so this is an updated version with the listing of all the workshops and new ideas for the U.V project.
A series of U.V lights have been installed on the back wall already, more will be installed on the nights of the project. people who are not painting and want to carry on with the usual activities may have to U.V what ever they're using ... like paint your skate boards U.V and the table tennis and pool. The whole main space will only be light in U.V , lighting.
The desired Result will be a crazy back wall to draw lots of attention and look insane for parties haha!
The work on the wall has started already and will continue for another 2-3 weeks, then the U.V paint will come out!
While the U.V graffiti's rolling there will be other neon elements introduced to run along side.
Check this Video of U.V project. It's very inspiring, think we should try and create something similar?

BE U.V - Huge U.V Party

BE THERE - 08/08
The first of many parties, this one was a secret party. Everyone was told it was a social experiment to see who would turn up and see what the hell we're on with. It was a good turn out. This first one was experimental, we're open for suggestion for the next one! Music or other ideas! Now everyone knows what BE THERE stands for, each one will introduce a new original edge to a party, so each one will get better. Look forward to the next one ... might be a U.V party?!
BE THERE - U.V
Attacked with U.V pen, the first stage to set people up for the second BE THERE, which is looking like it'll be a U.V party!
BE THERE - Andrea's Birthday Tribute
A few songs dedicated to Andrea on her Birthday. It was a right laugh!
BE THERE - Poi
Anyone who missed a chance of Fire Poi and wanted a go, I'm sure if you ask Adie to bring it down, he will!!i
The Poi was such a success with everyone, it inspired a Poi Project. Well the Idea was already for a proposed Poi Project. But gaging the reaction, the planning is now underway!!
For the next BE THERE we have some lose ideas, people obviously know it's the name stands for party now, so we'll be looking at different thing to turn them into original and fun parties! The next will be this side xmas, and will probably tie in with the current projects.
If anyone else have any idea's to introduce to BE THERE like a cheesey 60's theme, or other iconic dress codes ... please let us know!
Hope everyone enjoyed it!
Cheers

We've now have a Wii !!
Presentation of new equipment - We've now have a Wii !!
Handing over of new equipment from Heage Teen Zone
Well what more do you want other than a Wii in a projection space? Thank you!
Heage Teen Zone closed its doors for the last time 2 weeks ago - a great loss to Heage Community. The founder of the Teen Zone, Sharon, donated equipment to the Drop Inn, we recieved a new pool table, a karaoke machine and from the remaining funds from Heage, Sharon purchased a Nintendo Wii for us. A sad loss for Heage but a wonderful gain for the Drop Inn, we will have many fun hours with our new equipment, it will certainly be put to good use. A big thankyou to Sharon and Sophie!!

The Drop Inn has Tallent
There is always alot of tallent being noticed at The Drop Inn, the graffiti project has shown there is some really good artists who come down, In the karaoke on monday we saw some interesting singing duets. The rest of the time on standard Monday and Thursdays we've noticed all the members have tallent in different areas, like the skate crew. There might be enough tallent to run some kind of competition, you stand up with any idea you like, anything from party tricks to trained skills. Everyone would vote for the winner. STAND UP. The winner would recieve a really nice shiney trophy and a huge cheer ...
check this crazy tallent for one example

Senses Challenge one
The idea behind the challenge was to have fun and raise awareness around people with disabilities - inspired by our visits to Portland College. Our members were blindfolded and had to identify sounds and smells, they identified pictures without being able to speak, lastly they were blindfolded again, had a swimming peg on their nose then has to identify tastes (we were a bit mean with some of the tastes so had to have a sick bucket at the ready!!)
The overall winner was Rich, second was Billy, the results were all good and really got the young people empathising.
There is to be a follow up of this awareness night with a physical and mental challenge - details to be released soon so keep looking!!

Linking Lives
Linking Old and Young lives ... The Drop Inn Centre for Young People is running a 3 year project funded by the Methodist Circuit to help break down barriers of communication between older people and young people and dispel myths usually created by the media.
After a three month consultation period we are now planning some one off taster and meeting sessions between the two generations.
The main view from both generations is that they can learn a great deal from each other about lifestyles, working and leisure time, and that bad press coverage gives all young people a bad name causing concern. Some of the ideas from the consultation include story swapping sessions, computer and mobile phone awareness, games, skills swaps.
We would very much like to plan an activity with your group and are open to all suggestions and ideas, it would involve a small group of young people visiting your group and an invitation for yourselves to visit the Drop Inn Centre for a return activity.
This is a great opportunity to build bridges within the community and I hope you will join us in creating an environment of mutual respect and awareness of each others issues and needs. If you would like any further information please do not hesitate to contact me.
