Gritty Subz headlined this 'safe rave'
which attracted 160 young people.

It was the busiest 'Safe Rave' we have ever done, and it was all promoted and organised by resident Dj Patchwerk (a former young member of The Drop Inn).

Reanimated Halloween 'Safe Rave'

Re-animated Halloween 'safe rave.' The return of the under 18's night ... This was originally a under 18's metal night, but then got unfortunately canceled and re-animated as a halloween 'safe rave.'

Unfortunately last minute the under 18's metal night was cancelled by Deafbox.

Fortunately our young resident DJ Patchwerk got on Facebook ad set up his own event on behalf of The Drop Inn.

He set up the Re-animated Halloween 'Safe Rave' ...

We used the same decoration we had been working on for the under 18's metal night, here you can see the 20 foot skeleton climbing over the speakers and DJ stage ...

The DJ box with giant skeleton under the U.V lights ... This event was entirely organised and ran by the young people, it truly was re-animated and could be a kick start to the new wave of 'safe raves'

Safe Rave rural exchange

We designed a 'Safe Rave' package to take the award winning project into other communities, to help tackle under age drinking, drug misuse and anti-social behavior. Each community 'Safe Rave' package will include e few 'Safe Rave' events for the young people, but will especially include DJ training for the youth and drugs and alcohol awareness sessions for the volunteers.
Each package will cater and can be adapted to suit the needs of the different communities.

There is already 4 communities that have been put forward for this package by DCC, we are excited to begin the out reach work.
Please read more about it by clicking on the Belper People link below:

>>> Belper People Article <<<

The money put into this project is being put into the communities for the training and tackling of antisocial behavior, but the money for the equipment hire to run the projects, which will be Hired through the Drop Inn will raise small amounts of funding to maintain and improve the facilities of our own youth centre.

It's a great new direction for The Drop Inn, we cant wait to start.

We have booked Just James the winners of the Sound Hub Battle of the Bands 2011 for the headlines. They do originals and covers of Dnb, Hiphop, Electro and dubstep. They are well worth seeing. Also on the Line up we wil see the legendary Shookz and resident DJ's Patchwerk and Skairpigg <<<

The 3rd 'Safe Rave' of 2011 is the Formula filth one, with resident DJ's and volunteer Ben Gregory Performing.

We tried some new toys out like MP3 encoded decks fed into the iMac.

It was an unusual 'Safe Rave' wasn't as busy as the others but it was still a good one.

A Spring 'Safe Rave'

This was all about the Drum and Bass mad March Hare. It saw the return of the favored DJ SHOOKZ, back by popular demand, and supported by the Resident Youth DJ's Skairpigg and PatchWerk!

We tried a new room lay out again, which made it sound even better and made a nice dance area, what the DJ's looked over.

This 'Safe Rave' was also dedicated to celebrate the life of Tom Chandler, one of our members who is sadly pass on. We stopped the music to have a minutes silence, and had a book to write messages to send to his family and close friends.

Safe Rave Wall Proposal

We are looking at changing the Knife crime wall into the 'Safe Rave' wall. The knife crime wall has been there for 2 years now and need updating.
There is a lot of people asking about the 'safe raves' and want to see what they look like, so the new wall will be an exhibition of all the 'safe raves' so far, showing the promotional art work and flyers along side celebrity signatures and event photos.

Secret 'Safe Rave'

F710[1]_Secret by thedropinn
F710[1]_Secret a photo by thedropinn on Flickr.

This was a new idea and a new direction for the 'safe raves,'

We decided to tell no-one about it, so none of the young people knew what was happening, or who was playing.

It was a great successful experiment with 98 young people turning up.

Apart from the DJ being a complete secret, we also hide the dance floor so you had to walk around a corner to see what was going on, and more noticeably all the staff were in fancy dress.

The fancy dress was no particular theme, just something silly. It shocked and amused all the Young people. It was for a laugh and a big surprise, but it also worked with showing the young people just how dedicated to being silly all the workers are.

It had a great atmosphere with loads of new faces turning up, just hope we didn't scare the new ones away with our outfits.

We've gone from MC Spyda to Nicky Blackmarket, so we need to think of another big name to headline this year now.
Please look on the 'Safe Rave' facebook page and join the discussion about the 2011 headline.

NICKY BLACKMARKET "Safe Rave"

F7-10_[12-10] by thedropinn
F7-10_[12-10] a photo by thedropinn on Flickr.

This was the most talked about and the best 'Safe Rave' so far!

We had 112 Young People attend and everyone was inside dancing.

Nicky Blackmarket is one of the best known Drum and Bass DJ's and plays all over the world.

He Said "What You guys do down here is amazing!"

The Safe Raver pose.

Some of the Young member's who had took part in the DJ Workshops from last year, had become resident DJ's at the 'safe rave' and supported Nicky Blackmarket this time. To some of them this is their idol, so they couldn't believe they got the opportunity to DJ along side him!

Some of the Young People having pictures with this celebrity after the show.

A Young member jumping higher and higher as the music breaks into Drum and Bass madness.

All the atmosphere of a real rave now, but in a completely safe environment.

Mr Blackmarket got taken back to the day of playing in tiny warehouses instead of huge hyper clubs and festivals.

And he loved it, the crown were so close to him and he was loving the response!

Some of the 112 Young people in attendance. The crowd was going wild! It was an amazing atmosphere!

The best and most used photo example already of the 'Safe Raves.'

Kit was the photographer who travelled across from wales to cover this 'safe rave.' He took some amazing pictures!

Safe Rave 2010 [7] - Aura & Archie

Grime 'Safe Rave' by thedropinn
Grime 'Safe Rave' a photo by thedropinn on Flickr.

The Grime 'Safe Rave' saw some local talent step on the stage. We had booked Natty, but unfortunately he couldn't make it.

On the day we had still not sorted a Grime Dj replacement, it was looking to have to change the style of music despise the Youth being really excited for the grime genre.

Last minute we managed to book and secure Aura and Archie, two young local DJ's who were happy to come along and play grime. There was a huge turn out. Right in front of the speakers we plugged a couple of Mics in for the MC's. There must have been at least 20 young people passing the Mic around taking it in turns to spit their bars (Rap their lyrics). It was a very different atmosphere to usual, but it seemed to attract a lot of young people still.

We will be doing another grime one in the future, it was a nice difference.

Safe Rave 2010 [6] - Shookz & The Drop Inn Youth

Dubstep 'Safe Rave'
Originally uploaded by thedropinn
For the first time at the "Safe Raves" two members of the Drop Inn Youth did a set. Daz and Steven aka DJ's Scarepig and Patch had worked really hard to put these sets together, they both learned how to DJ on the Shookz DJ workshops that ran for 6 Months from last summer.

The response from the rest of the youth supporting their dj peers was absolutely incredible, everyone was going mental for them!
This new direction for the "Safe Raves" will only get better, we are currently running music production courses, again with Shookz, with the aim being to mix their own music tracks into their sets by the last "Safe rave" this year in December. We are also looking at teaching a small team how to set the sound system up and control all the lights, with the future focus of the "Safe Raves" being it will all be Youth lead! It's an Amazing new direction for the "Safe Raves!"

Safe Rave 2010 [2] - Dirty Bear

We had another good turn out with 84 Young People turning up to come to Party Friday Night. Dirty Bear was the Dj playing Chunky Chicago House, which was a big change from previous 'Safe Raves.' This year each 'Safe Rave' will be themed with a different genre of Urban or Electronica Style music. The idea behind this was to attract different groups to the dance floor. This HOUSE 'Safe Rave' was a success bringing a large majority of Females to the dance floor, who had previously stayed at the edge of the dance floor at the Drum and Bass 'Safe Raves.'
